JUST IN: PBBM SIGNS REPUBLIC ACT NO. 12326 An Act Fixing the Term of Office of Barangay Officials and Members of the Sangguniang Kabataan to Five Years

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has signed Republic Act No. 12326, setting the term of office of elected Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials at five (5) years. Under the new law, the next regular Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will be held on the second Monday of November 2028, replacing the previously scheduled November 2, 2026 elections. Subsequent BSKEs will be held every five years thereafter. The law also provides that incumbent elected barangay officials shall be considered to have completed one full term despite the extension, while those currently serving their final consecutive term in the same position will be ineligible to run for the same position in the November 2028 elections.
